On Thursday 4th July, St Dunstan’s Year 11 class of 2019 were all together for the final time for their leavers’ day and prom. We all gathered for a very entertaining assembly where we looked back fondly on the five years they had spent with us. There was an underlying poignancy to the event as we remembered Amy who we lost last year; we were delighted that Amy’s parents were able to join us and to see the beautiful memorial garden created in her honour. In the evening, parents, friends and teachers gathered to see Year 11 arrive in style for their prom. And what style they showed, gleaming tractors, roaring British bikes and sleek sports cars delivered our wonderful students to their prom and turned every head in Wells Cathedral Square! After their show stopping arrivals, students and staff moved to the Swan Hotel where we enjoyed a superb meal and an evening of great fun as certificates were issued and memories shared. Again, our lovely Amy was remembered as students had elected to theme the decorations in her favourite colours. A montage of pictures of Amy was on display and Amy’s dad brought her two best friends to prom in his sports car. Finally, students danced the night away – we were all amazed to see Elijah and Ellis’ choreographed routine to ‘Staying Alive’ by the Bee Gees; St Dunstan’s certainly ‘got talent’! The hotel staff were very complimentary about the students’ behaviour and how charming they were. Year 11 – you did us proud right to the end and we salute you! We wish each and every one of you a bright and shining future; we have loved teaching you.
